The two included stator pads insulate the stator coils inside the motor housing. Over time, friction, heat, and structural vibration cause the original insulation pads to degrade.
By keeping the stator coils securely cushioned and properly spaced from the moving parts of the generator armature, they prevent hazardous metal-on-metal contact. This eliminates electrical grounding shorts that can burn out the starter motor.
